Background
In 1906, the present St John Church of Uganda was started at Busia, St John Church of Uganda is found in Busia Municipal Council, a few meters to the cross roads of Jinja to customs road and Majanji Tororo Road and has existed for 118 years. We thank God for the far He has brought us.
St John Church of Uganda was elevated to a parish status in 1917 because of its strategic position and later became the Deanary headquarters for Samia Bugwe when it was curved out of Tororo in 1986.
It had 15 parishes namely; Bumunji, Lunyo, Lumino, Majanji, Busikho, Buhehe, Butenge, Masaba, Busitema, Bulumbi, Buwembe, Busimbembe, Mundindi, Kubo and Busia with the Headquarters of the Archdeaconry at St John Church of Uganda Busia. The Archdeaconries of Samia Bugwe South Archdeaconry, Samia Bugwe Central Archdeaconry and Syamalede Archdeaconry were curved out of Samia Bugwe Archdeaconry leaving St John Church of Uganda Busia as the Headquarters of Samia Bugwe Archdeaconry comprising of 10 parishes.
On 06th May, 2007 the Rt. Rev Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi laid a foundation stone for a magnificent church building that many have described as a cathedral with a sitting capacity of over 800 Christians in a single service.
St John Church of Uganda was consecrated on 08th April, 2018 by the Rt. Rev Samuel George Bogere Egessa the Bishop of Bukedi Diocese.

Land size & Infrastructure
St John Church of Uganda Busia sits on total Land acreage of 65 acres of titled and registered land along Busia Jinja Highway, the Land title is in custody of the Province of church of Uganda, the said Land has no encumbrances.
Busia Municipal Council approved land use physical plan for the entire Land of St John Church of Uganda. The physical plan defines the proposed investments that is the business centers, guest houses/inn, clergy residential areas and hostels for income generation.
The Land has built infrastructure including two church buildings, Busia Intergraded primary school, parking yard leased to VIVO Energy and Total Energies among others.
The Land is accessible and connected to the national power grid, National water and Sewerage Corporation and is central in location to parishes from all the four Archdeaconries. The Christian fraternity as well as other private and government institutions such as Banks, Busia Municipal Council offices, Busia District Local Government offices and Busia Municipal Main market are easily accessible as well.
Among other assets there is an Archdeaconry motor vehicle Reg No: UBL 605R that facilitates the day today movements of the Ven Archdeacon.
St John Cou Busia being the Headquarters of Samia Bugwe Archdeaconry, Christians embarked on two projects aimed at improving the infrastructure which has seen the construction of clergy’s guest house measuring 3090 sqm x 1741 sqm on a one acre piece of land with 8 self-contained rooms, sitting room, dining room, chapel and 5 wash rooms. The structure is set for completion with construction of a perimeter wall, tile work and painting by close of December 2024.
